This East London Secondary School wishes to appoint an inspirational and dynamic teacher to lead a busy Music Department and as the Head of Music; you will be taking responsibility for the management and development of music throughout the school. To commence employment in September 2010.

The successful candidate will be a talented musician and excellent classroom practitioner, creative and well organised, with a passion for their subject. We are looking for a quality individual to further development within this department. Applicants should be committed to raising standards and safeguarding students, enthusiastic and caring with high professional standards and be able to teach throughout the school.

The Head of Music is responsible to the Head for the overall delivery of the musical programme within the school, specifically:

The musical philosophy and policy of the School
The structure and shape of the music timetable and extra-curricular music
The School’s overall musical performance
Reporting and celebrating achievements
The co-ordination and monitoring of the music budget
Creating and fostering links with the wider community
The development of music and performance
Planning and co-ordinating the programme of musical events

You will be required to:-
To teach and direct to the highest standard
To encourage, support and offer advice to all other teachers
To determine, in consultation with the School’s requirements for music staffing for the forthcoming year
To represent the school at any relevant external conferences on musical matters
To foster links with feeder schools, competitor schools and musical associations
To manage and develop the school’s best musicians, developing appropriate programmes for them
To encourage representative achievements, putting forward pupils for regional and national representation as appropriate.
